EDUCACTION

In Practice supports educational projects, courses and studios which bridge the gap between architectural practice, research and pedagogy. This comprises bachelor and master studios, electives, summer schools and any other possible forms.

Incipient Raum - The Unknown Edifice

Making Civic
Currently in practice, we focus on how things are made and how to make them. This question applies to both the design process and to the actual building of a project. Through making, we are exploring ways to reduce material and exploring to find unexpected ways of reusing materials. Making is about the bringing together of 'form' and 'matter'. A second line of inquiry and debate is that of Civic Space. As practice, we aim to contribute to the realisation of Civic Spaces. We are interested in the capacity of architecture to facilitate Civic Space and how spatial relationships play in important role in this. These two lines of inquiry: MAKING and CIVIC, emerge out of the current activities in the Studio Tuin en Wereld practice and form a practice based motivation for the Master Dissertation 2019-2020 INCIPIENT RAUM: UNKOWN EDIFICE I: The Urban Condition 7: In Making.
Slightly oblique to these two lines the studio explores what the concept of INCIPIENT RAUM could mean and what it can bring to the field of architecture...

Conjectural architecture - Oversize Charleroi

This elective in the international masters proposed to develop a publishable book as a way to explore the topic of Oversize. In doing so, a statement had to be made about Oversize through the parallel visual exploration of a site or building in Charleroi and a site, building or project in which AgwA was involved (the lecturer's practice). The medium of the book and of the visual media as vectors of a research position within the practice is thus twice activated. First through the recurrent presence of the practice of AgwA, and second through the central use of the expressive tools of an architecture practice as the medium through which the studio research is conducted.

AT XX reconversion - Master Studio ULiège faculty of architecture

This studio addresses XXth century buildings and explores their possible reactualization. Since 2018, it frames in the ADO Oversize in collaboration with KU Leuven, UCL, ULB. Oversize addresses the unique opportunities and challenges represented by the transformation and reuse of spaces that are too large in regard of the current or planned needs. Amongst others, the studio worked on the former brewery Les Alliés and the Générale de Banque building, both located in Charleroi. This studio is also connected to the course on building monographies by Aloÿs Beguin.
